The eighth group of children from Gaza on rehabilitation treatment in Slovenia

On 29 September 2011 a group of 10 children from Gaza arrived for the rehabilitation at the University Rehabilitation Institute of the Republic of Slovenia (URI So?a). Children were accompanied by two physiotherapists who arrived at URI So?a for on-the-job training. This is already the eighth group of children from Gaza that will receive the much needed rehabilitation treatment in Slovenia.
International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) is implementing the “Gaza project” in cooperation with the URI So?a that includes physical and mental rehabilitation of children/victims of conflict from Gaza and local/national capacity building in the field of rehabilitation.

Project is being implemented under the initiative of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Danilo Türk and was launched in the end of January 2009. Thus far, 80 children from Gaza were rehabilitated and 13 physiotherapists received training at URI So?a.  Beside Slovenian government the project is also supported by Mr. Amr Moussa (former Secretary General of the Arab League), Capt. Mohammad Al-Khashman (Jordan Aviation Group), Czech Republic, Korea, Qatar,  Rotary Club Portorož, Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), United States of America, Petrol, Airport Ljubljana, Opec Fund for International Development (OFID),  Principality of Monaco and the Danilo Türk Foundation “Pustimo jim sanje”.
On 30 September 2011 the children from Gaza were visited by the representatives of the Government Communication Office of the Republic of Slovenia, represented by the director Mr. Darijan Košir and Mr. Matjaž Kek. Promotion material “I feel Slovenia” was handed to the children.
Children and physiotherapists will stay at URI So?a until 23 October 2011.
