ITF attended the Bled Strategic Forum

31.08.2010

On 29 and 30 August 2010 International Trust Fund's (ITF) representatives attended the Bled Strategic Forum held in the Slovenian resort town of Bled, world-renowned for its beautiful alpine lake; the Forum was organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and Centre for European Perspective.

Under the title "The Global Outlook for the Next Decade", the Forum tackled some of the major challenges of the decade: the energy transition, the water challenge, re-vitalising the economy, and the transformative power of the Internet. The Forum also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the EU's role in a multi-polar world, on ways to reconnect the Western Balkans and to talk about the Regional Security Challenges and Cooperation in Central Asia. The Forum provided a useful insight on current situation and trends in ITF areas of activities as well as the opportunity for ITF to execute consultations with the relevant actors on a state level and from the private background.
During a roundtable discussion on Regional Security Challenges and Cooperation in Central Asia, ITF Director, Mr Dorijan Marši?, stressed the importance of the initiatives addressing specific regional issues and establishing the regional cooperation on a technical level such as the new project of regional cooperation in the field of humanitarian mine action conducted under the auspices of the OSCE. The project aims to establish a regional coordination and cooperation mechanism in Mine Action in Central Asia and received positive support by Central Asian states.
