Demining project in Cyprus started

19.11.2004

We are pleased to announce that ITF received note verbale from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Cyprus stating that demining project in Cyprus (UNFICYP controlled buffer zone) started on 16 November 2004. Government of the Republic of Cyprus also thanked Governments of Canada (250.000 USD) and Slovenia (1 million SIT) for providing funds through ITF which covered  costs of setting up UN Mine Action Cell as well as detection and personal protective equipment for the two implementing agencies chosen on UNDP restricted tender.

The demining program is further funded by the EU through its program »Partnership for the Future«, which has already made available 2.5 million Eur so that demining process in Cyprus would proceed as planned.
